Rebuilding Albums using ProSelect Recovery Files

Recovery Files (v2022r1.4 and later)

Recovery files are created, stored, then updated on album open and save commands. These files, stored in system directories, contain no images, only album data. Restoration points are always updated to the latest Open or Save point.  At that time, any previous incremental restore points are replaced.

If a .psa file is corrupted, PLUS Technical Support can likely recover data that can later be merged with your original images to rebuild an album. Even if a ProSelect file is deleted from your system, support can use this file to rebuild data, so long as your system files are still intact on the computer where you worked on the album.  You would still need access to the original images for full recovery

There is no end-user recoverable data in this file and recovery services are limited to those with active PLUS accounts.

Locating the Recovery File

On ProSelect 2022r1.4 and newer, Recovery Files are saved as .PSARF files in these locations:

Macs:  StartupDisk: Users: YourUserName: Library: Application Support: ProSelect: Album_Restore
Windows: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Roaming\ProSelect\Album_Restore

Recovery files are in subfolders by year.  It's possible that you could have hundreds of these files on your system. A recovery file is created for each album saved on your system.  Keep in mind that these files are very small as they only contain database information and no images.  Files are named based on the album file name, plus some encrypted reference information

If you can't find these folders on your computer, they may be hidden so see these articles:

Sending the File to PLUS Technical Support

Log into your account at ProStudioSoftware.com.  Go to Support Resouces and choose PLUS Technical Support.  Complete the requested information and attach the .PSARF file to the ticket.  Keep the ticket link for reference.  Keep in mind that this recovery service is limited to those with current PLUS accounts.

Rebuilding the ProSelect Album

PLUS Technical Support will return a .PSA file through the support ticket system.  Download the file.   Open the file in ProSelect.  When the album is opened, you will be prompted to update the images in the album.  In thumbnail view, select all the images (at this point they will be just gray boxes) and do a CTRL (PC) or CMD (MAC) U to update the images.   This must take place on the computer where you last worked with the album.   If you are unable to use the same computer, you will need to relink to the images (Album > Original Images > Reload Original images).

Once the album is updated with the images, save the file to your working location.
