Duplicating a Book in same or different size

Sometimes you may want to create a another copy of a book in ProSelect so that you can work on an alternative layout or produce the book in a different size or format.

Copy of a Book of a Same Size

This can be easily done as follows:

  1. While Working with Books, change to Thumbnail View.
  2. Select an empty book from the Thumbnail bar (one without a check mark in it).
  3. Set the Book Design for the new book to be the same as the original book.
  4. Select the original book to be copied from in the Thumbnail bar.
  5. Select all the pages in that book using Control-A (on PC) or Cmd-A (on Mac).
  6. Drag all the pages and drop them onto the icon for the new book while holding the Alt/Option key down. (Holding the Alt/Option key down tells ProSelect to make a duplicate of all the pages rather than just moving them to the other book.)
  7. Finally, use "Send Book to Production --> Selected Book" (under Production menu)
  8. Produce the Hi-Res pages as usual.

Copy a Book to a Different Size

ProSelect makes it easy to create multiple copies of the same book at different sizes (and even different shapes) using the steps below. This is useful for offering a second book at a smaller or larger size (eg smaller for a customer's parents).

  1. Create another Book design with the dimensions of your smaller/larger book (under Templates menu) . This can be the same page shape or different.
  2. While Working with Books, change to Thumbnail View and select an empty Book from the Thumbnail bar (one without a check mark in it)
  3. Assign your smaller/larger book's design to this book (let's call it the second book in this article).
  4. Select the Book to be copied from in the Thumbnail bar.
  5. Select all the pages in that book using Control-A (on PC) or Cmd-A (on Mac).
  6. Drag all the pages and drop them onto the icon for the new book while holding the Alt/Option key down. The page sizes (page layouts) will be adjusted to the second book's size*. (Holding the Alt/Option key down tells ProSelect to make a duplicate of all the pages rather than just moving them to the other book.)
  7. Select the second book again and check all pages are correct. If the second Book's pages are a different shape some cropping adjustment might be required if the openings have been stretched to fit - do this is cropping view.
  8. Finally, use "Send Book to Production --> Selected Book" (under Production menu)
  9. Produce the Hi-Res pages as usual.

* Note:  Since the selected Book Design specifies the ultimate shape of each page, all templates that don’t match the same size and shape will be adjusted to fit (unless they are a fixed size template). See also the section "What happens to the Layouts when you change a Book Design" in the article "Changing a Book Design" for more information on what can happen.
