ProSelect not launching when double-clicking on album file

Like most software, you can launch ProSelect and have it load a ProSelect Album file (.psa file) by simply double-clicking on the album file.  This is controlled by operating system (eg Mac OSX & Windows).

It is possible for the OS to lose the association between a ProSelect Album file and the ProSelect software so it does not know which application to run when you double-click on the album file icon.

If this occurs on your computer, then you can do the following:

ON MAC

Check that you only have one copy of ProSelect installed.

If you have more than one copy installed, then Mac OSX can get confused as to which copy to launch (normally it launches the newest version).

You can use Spotlight to search for all files whose name is ProSelect and then delete any extra copies.  You should empty the trash after deleting to make sure that the other copies can't be accessed.

Re-associating a ProSelect Album file with ProSelect

A) If prompted that no application is set to open the file, then click "Choose Application" and navigate to the ProSelect folder inside your Applications folder (this is the default location). Then choose ProSelect.

If you don't have a ProSelect folder inside your applications folder, then you need to re-install the relevant version of ProSelect for your license.

B) Another way to correct this (if the ProSelect software is installed) is:

  1. Select any ProSelect album file (.psa)
  2. Select Get Info under the Finder's File menu or just enter Command-I
  3. In the window that opens, location the Open With section
  4. From the Dropdown menu select ProSelect (this should only be listed once).
  5. Click the Change All button
  6. Close the Get Info window

If the above still does not work, try re-starting your computer and repeating.

ON WINDOWS

Re-associating a ProSelect Album file with ProSelect on Windows is done using the following steps:

  1. Open Window Explorer
  2. Navigate to a ProSelect Album file (.psa)
  3. Right button click over the file
  4. In the menu, choose Open with... and select "Choose default program"
  5. Make sure the "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" box is checked, and choose ProSelect in the list (double click on it).
  6. If ProSelect is not listed, then left click on the "Browse" button and search for ProSelect.exe under C:\Program Files\TimeExposure\ProSelect folder

Note: On Windows (64 bit), the default location will be "C:\Program Files (x86)\ProStudioSoftware\ProSelect".

If you have more than one copy of ProSelect installed (or can't find ProSelect), then make sure you have a copy of the installer for the relevant version for your license (or download it from the ProSelect software Downloads page on the ProStudio Software website), and:

  1. Close ProSelect (if open).
  2. Left click on Windows Start button (bottom left) and choose Control Panel --> Uninstall a Program
  3. Choose ProSelect (this will likely remove all instances if you see more than one)
  4. Re-install the relevant version for your license.
  5. This should reset your album file assocation to ProSelect program also (if not, please follow the steps above to re-associate the file to the program).

Note: You can check which version you are licensed to use by logging in to your account (top right) on the ProStudio Software website.
