PayPal Account Setup for WebGallery

Updated December 6, 2011

The WebGallery system allows you to use your own PayPal account to accept credit card payments for orders. The system automatically links successful PayPal payments against the relevant orders so you know that the payment has been made before delivering the order.

In order to use a PayPal account with the WebGallery system, you need to make sure that it is correctly setup and the correct details are entered into the Ordering Details section of your WebGallery account's Member's Admin Area.

US, UK & Canadian Businesses

If you are located in the US, UK or Canada, you can also use the Paypal Website Payment Pro option which provides a more seamless connection between the WebGallery system and Paypal and, for your customers, looks more professional than the basic Paypal option described here which takes the user to a separate Paypal page to enter their credit card details.

Creating a PayPal Account

If you don't already have a PayPal account, you can apply here.  It doesn't cost anything to create a PayPal Account but you need to select and setup a Premium/Business Account in order to use it with the WebGallery system.

If you have an existing PayPal account which is not a Premium/Business Account then you will need to upgrade your account type first. You can do this by logging into your PayPal account and selecting Upgrade.

After the initial setup process, you should also make sure that your PayPal account is verified. This involves clicking the Get Verified link in the Set Up Your Account section near top top left of the My Account page and adding your bank account details to your PayPal account so that you can make transfers of monies received to your bank account.

Setting up You PayPal Account

Once you have established your PayPal account, you should log into this account then:

  1. Under the My Account tab, click on the Profile link. The My Profile page should be displayed.
  2. Click the My selling tools (or Preferences) item listed on the left column of the page.
  3. In the Selling online section, click Update link next to Website Preferences.

On the Website Payment Preferences page set the following:

  1. In the Auto Return for Website Payments section, set Auto Return to ON
  2. In the same section, enter "http://webgallery.timeexposure.com" into the Return URL box
  3. In the Payment Data Transfer section, set Payment Data Transfer to ON
  4. Under this, in the same section, you will see your unique Identity Token (a long list of letters and numbers). Drag your cursor over all of the characters in the token to select them and then copy them to your clipboard - you will need them for your WebGallery setup.
  5. In the Encrypted Website Payments section, set Block Non-encrypted Website Payments to OFF
  6. In the PayPal Account Optional section, set PayPal Account Optional to ON
  7. In the Contact Telephone Number section, set Contact Telephone to OFF
  8. In the PayPal Express Checkout Settings section, set Support giropay and bank transfer payments to NO

Click the Save button at the bottom of the page.

Note: If you lose the Identity Token you can always go back to the above section and get another copy of the token.

Adding PayPal details to your WebGallery Account

  1. Log into your WebGallery account Member's Admin Area.
  2. Click the manage link in the Your Account box.
  3. Click Change Ordering Details
  4. Check the box next to PayPal (under Payment Options)
  5. Enter your PayPal Account number (normally your email address)
  6. Paste your Identity Token from the clipboard into the PayPal PDT Identity Token box.
  7. Click the Save button at the bottom of the page

Note: None of the above operations allow anyone, other than yourself to access your PayPal account details. This is protected by your PayPal password which you should not divulge to anyone.

Checking that your PayPal account is working

After setting all this up, it is highly recommended that you test the ordering and payment system by purchasing something from one of your uploaded albums. Use your credit card to make the payment and make sure everything works as expected.

Make sure the "popup-blocker" in the internet browser software is turned off  (as requested) to access the Paypal page successfully.
