ProSelect Server cannot save Preferences or Data File Error Message

The ProSelect Network Server saves its data in a special folder on your computer.  See below for where these folders are located.

To allow the Server to read and write from this location:

  1. the account that the server is running under needs to have Administrator privileges
  2. the permissions for this folder need to be read/write (ie the folder is not locked)
  3. the files in the folder need to have read/write permissions (ie not locked)

If you are not sure about what the above means, then we suggest you ask for some assistance from a computer technician.

What files are saved

There are a number of files saved in this folder.

ProSelectDataServerPrefs.xml

This file contains the Preference settings for the Server. This is written whenever you shut down the server application. You can delete this file and a new one will be created the next time the server is shut down. In which case you will need to setup your settings in the server again.

ProSelect_Data.xml

This is the latest copy of your Prices & Templates data. It is written each time the server is sent an updated copy of the Prices & Templates data from a copy of ProSelect. This file can be deleted as a default one will be created the next time you start the server.

HOWEVER, if you delete this file, you should manually load your latest Price & Templates data into the server from a backup copy BEFORE starting any copies of ProSelect otherwise all copies of ProSelect will end up with the default data only.

ProSelect_Data_MachineName_bk1.xml, ProSelect_Data_MachineName_bk2.xml etc.

These are the previous three copies of the last Prices & Templates data sent from ProSelect on each different machine. These may be used to recover any lost data. They can be deleted if you wish.
