Exporting to PhotoOne from a Mac
PhotoOne is only available on PC however, you can still use ProSelect on a Mac-based sales computer to record your orders and then export the XML orders file across a network to the PhotoOne folder on your PC. (See Exporting Orders to PhotoOne for how this works.)

However, there is currently one problem for Mac users who wish to work this way....

Whenever Mac OSX writes a file to a PC formatted drive, it creates extra files that are used to store extra information about the file - information that is only used by the Mac (the file's resource fork for the more technical minded reader).

These appear on your PC as files starting with "._" (dot + underscore). So if you copy a file called "1234.xml" to your PC, you will end up with "1234.xml" AND and hidden file called "._1234.xml".

Because the View options on your PC are usually setup not to show hidden files, you won't normally see these but PhotoOne does. PhotoOne thinks that the second file is a valid XML order file and, since it isn't, it generates an error when it tries to import the file. We have asked PhotoOne to make some changes so any hidden XML files that it finds starting with "._" will be ingored (and deleted).

Solution

In the meantime, the solution is to purchase and use a program called "BlueHarvest" from this web site: www.zeroonetwenty.com/blueharvest/. This will prevent OSX from creating these extra files on any specified devices. BlueHarvest cost US$10.

After installing BlueHarvest, open your System Preferences and click on Blue Harvest icon near the bottom. Click the Resources Tab and select "Any" from the left-hand list box. You need Stop and Start it (using the button on bottom right corner) or log out and back in to have your changes start working. After that, those other troublesome files should not be created.

NOTE:
If you have a more sophisticated setup where you are copying files from your Mac to a non HFS (non-Mac drive) then you may need to be more selective about the settings that you use in BlueHarvest.
